Phil Stanbridge has provided us with the following image that shows the arrival of the sheet metal that will become the roof of the brake tender. These have been delivered to our friendly workshop in Burton on Trent (TAS Engineering) and will over the next couple of weeks be cut and rolled to shape for fitting to the vehicle in a few weeks time. Work will then proceed to fully weld the bodywork up before it is prepared for painting and lettering, plus weighing and setting the correct ride height.

5th November 2016 - RVP AGM

28th September 2016 - TPO 80301 - Repairs Completed

It is very pleasing to report that all the repair work following the collision damage to Travelling Post Office coach 80301 has been completed. Nemisis Rail has also undertaken some additional work to make repairs to the door posts and apparatus area for which RVP is most thankful for. The completion of the work has also included the patch painting of the areas involved in the repairs, however we have been given the option to have the coach completely repainted at an advantageous rate, which would mean the coach returns to the GCR in pristine external condition.

This has been carefully considered by RVP’s management and is viewed as being good value for money, however, we don’t have all the money “in the pot” to pay for the additional work which goes beyond the insurance repairs to the vehicle. Nemisis Rail have put forward a proposition that RVP feel is too good an opportunity to refuse and as such we have authorised the repaint to go forward.

As a result RVP is asking for donations towards the repaint of the vehicle, with £1000 being the current shortfall. Funds already in place for the maintenance of 80301 are being used, which includes income from the recent BBC2 documentary “Full Steam Ahead” that aired in August this year.

Donations should be sent to:

TPO Fund
26 Cliff Park Avenue
Wakefield

Please enclose an SAE if an acknowledgement is required.

The ballast weights for the "Diesel Brake Tender" have been installed today, work started at around 08:30, just as the heavens opened. By 11:30 all the weights had been installed using a jumbo fork lift and HIAB unit. Within minutes of the last weight being installed and all of the team being soaked right through to the skin the rain stopped being replaced by some sunshine!

Whilst working on the pigeon van/ambulance car BGP 4149 we discovered hundreds of chewing gum wrappers tucked into the bases of the roof hoops. I've found out that these are probably dated to WW2 and the American soldiers that were carried in the vehicle. They were supplied as part of the K-rations.

It is with great sadness that we have to report that our former President, Dorothy Green, passed away in Chester on Wednesday 30th March following a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Dorothy was President of RVP for between 2006 and 2010, taking over the role following the death her husband and former RVP stalwart Brian Green.

The funeral will take place at Loughborough Crematorium, Leicester Road, Loughborough, LE11 2AF, on Friday 15th April at 2.45 p.m. Light refreshments will be served afterwards at Charnwood Lodge, 136 Leicester Road, Loughborough, LE11 2AQ

13th March 2016 - Latest news on the Diesel Brake Tender

The vehicle has now been fully fitted with its vacuum braking system and was yesterday, Saturday, given a successful brake test. This now means that work can proceed on installing the ballast weights, followed by the bodywork and painting.

Over the last two months some £900 has been raised towards this project, which is fantastic news and has given the team behind the project a boost. We are now just around £600 short of the funds we need to see this project through to completion.
